I’ve recently had the chance to buy a few pieces of two-tone African Padauk, with sapwood, as you can see in these pictures. Although I was looking for just one 3 foot piece, this beautiful Padauk stock made me forget about the budget.
The middle piece is almost 50-50 heartwood and sapwood. The tone contrast between the red-brown and beige sapwood is impressive.
Here’s a close look. You’ll notice some spalting as well, which adds to the amazing character of the Padauk. I know that African Padauk darkens over time, but there ware ways to prevent too much darkening.
Sometimes, you just got to get pieces like this, even if you have no idea what you need them for. Any suggestions?
